Curriculum
At Ms. London’s Bilingual Academy, I combine Reggio Emilia and Montessori philosophies to guide the learning environment.
There will be individual learning and exploring time as well as group learning and playing time throughout the day, so kids will learn how to focus on single task as well as teamwork.
Every day we start our day with music and dancing to move our body not only for strong gross motor skill development but also for an enthusiastic environment to kick start our learning day.
Infant/toddler (12 month- 33-month-old)
The infants/toddlers in this age desire more independent as the same time will still be dependent on a trusted caregiver. They tend to show more sign of “I CAN do it!” In this stage of development, infants/toddlers need a secure base that supports their need for exploration and discovery.
Social and Emotional Development
Provide a lot of smiles, laugh, talks, eye contact, and cuddling to the infants/toddlers throughout the day to build trust and bond between caregiver (me) and the infants/toddlers. Let infant/toddler learn the world is a safe place and there’s adults that they can trust.
At drop off and pick up time, provide consistent “Hello”, “Bye-bye” greeting routine, reassure the parents will return and acknowledge the feelings when needed.
Language Development
Talking to the infants/toddlers in both Chinese and English. Learn to greet each other among their friends. Verbally express everything they are doing. e.g. “Let’s take off your shoes.”
Introduce sign language to infants and younger toddlers.
Encourage infants/toddlers’ curiosities. Answer a lot of “why” and “how” questions. Ask older toddlers “why do you think” question and help them formulating answers.
Explore picture books in both languages. Naming objects while play. Explore posters to build more vocabularies. Encourage infant/toddler to express themselves. Reading picture books about family and friendship.
Cognitive Development
Math
Introduce sense of quantity by count to 10 and counting and puzzle, sorting educational materials. Introduce spatial and yet opposite word such as “on”, “under”.
Build sense of time such as “snack time”, “outdoor time”, “lunch time”, “nap time” etc.
Science
Provide water and sand playing. Explore age-appropriate science experiment such as drop food color into water under help to observing the changes.
Art/Music
Provide all kinds of art and hand crafting activities such as figure paint and Learn shapes colors.
Individual learning time
Utilize the individual learning material to practice concentration and fine motor skills.
Sing variety of baby rhymes and song at circle time as well as throughout the day. The kids will explode in a musical environment to help their brain development. Play musical instrument during circle time. Hear ukulele playing and strum on the ukulele.
During nap time, gentle classical music will be played.

Physical Health and Wellbeing Development
Everyday provide outdoor playing in both morning and afternoon each about forty-five minutes.
Provide nutrition snacks and lunch. Implement hand washing before eating.
Sing songs and dance at circle time to practice movement and learn body parts.
Preschool-PreK (33 month – 5 year old)

Social and Emotional Development
Learn about emotions and express feelings. Read books about emotions and how to deal with different emotions. Introduce individual learning material will provide identifying emotions by looking at pictures. Learn how to solve conflicts and knowing consequences of actions. Read books about family and friendship. Learn to ask for help and provide help.
Language Development
Engage more conversations. Ask questions and encourage answering questions. Practice re-tell stories towards bigger kids. Story, poem, nursey reading throughout the day build up vocabulary. Play rhyme games during circle time.
Introduce phonics to older preschoolers and pre-k kids. Trace and write letters, e.g. individual work on Montessori phonic play. Read and form CVC words. Read short sentences for older preschoolers and pre-k kids.
Cognitive Development
Math
Daily practice on counting numbers and items. Implement individual work on sorting, puzzle solving, recognizing shapes, time, size, volume etc. Learn number writing. Unitize measuring cups and spoons while doing baking activity to learn volume, weight, size.
Science
STEM activities. Explore science experiment. E.g. Make volcano with vinegar, baking soda and liquid soap. Observe experiment process and result. Introduce science in baking and art activities. Explore nature objective like, shells, trees, leaves etc.
Geography/History
Introduce maps. Sing 50 state song and continent song. Introduce presidents of United States. Read books about geography and history. Story telling about historic event. Tell history and background story about holidays.
Art/Music
Explore all kinds of art tools. E.g. Crayon, watercolor, marker, acrylics, playdoh, clay, etc. Encourage creative thinking. Utilize different materials to paint. E.g. Sea shells, leaves, plates, mugs, t-shirts etc.

Beside academia learning, I strongly believe that life skills will help kids in their future success. Therefore, we will provide opportunities of pets, plants caring as well as life skill activities such as “water pouring”, table wiping, floor cleaning, banana/potato cutting, clothes folding and self-care practice such as nose blowing and hair brushing, etc.
